About Us
Northwest Fisheries Education helps Washington students connect with one of the most important natural resource issues in our region: fish, rivers, and the science behind them. Through in-person classroom visits, we bring fisheries concepts to life with practical, hands-on lessons about salmon and steelhead, fish passage, river systems, fish anatomy, data collection, conservation, and natural resource careers.
One of our signature offerings is a hands-on fish anatomy and dissection lab, designed to give students a real look at how fish are built, how they function, and why anatomy matters in fisheries science. These lessons help students move beyond textbook learning and engage directly with the biology of fish in a memorable, age-appropriate way.
Our program is led by a regional fisheries scientist with experience in fish passage, monitoring, field operations, and fisheries data. The goal is simple: help students see that fisheries science is not just something in a textbook. It is real work happening in their own region, and it can open the door to meaningful careers in science, conservation, and natural resources.
